What happens when you release one song every week for 30 weeks. You get The Home indVasian Series by award-winning Melbourne hiphop duo Justice & Kaos. You also get pretty tired. What started as a novel idea to unashamedly jump on the American hiphop trend of the ‘weekly series’ has turned into one of the most consistent, innovative and underrated bodies of work by an Australian act (hiphop or otherwise) in recent times.
The series has stamped J&K as one of the most versatile hiphop acts in the country by putting their own spin on songs by The Ting Tings, Fugees, Bag Raiders, Chromeo, Leonardo’s Bride, Nicki Minaj, Glitch Mob, Kid Cudi, Chase & Status, Tinie Tempah and Ryan Leslie. Add to this 7 unreleased original tracks, 2 music videos, feature verses from 360, Mind Over Matter, GMC, Kid Mac (TMV Fam), Ilyak and Kale and you have one mammoth of a series. Eclectic is an understatement.
Already beginning to generate strong internet buzz, “Home” is the finale and swan song of the series – J&K’s tribute to the concept of ‘home’ and features Melbourne singer/songwriter Sean Declase (Jam Xpress – ‘I’m Free’). The track sees K (who also holds down the production duties) spend his verse paying tribute to Melbourne, the place he grew up in, while J speaks on straying from the path of success but eventually finding your way back ‘home’, particularly pertinent considering the duo’s prior ARIA and Urban Music Award credentials. With a killer hook and bridge written by Sean Declase, this is tasteful music that hits the right nerves, accompanied by a music video that oozes class and shows the best of the Melbourne city skyline.
“Home” is now available on iTunes and also available for FREE download for a limited time here.
The entire 30 weeks of The Home indVasian Series is also available for free download here.
